Engineering Project Manager (Product Development)

Location: Delta, B.C.

The Engineering Project Manager- Product Development is responsible for working with the product development team to manage projects from brief to production, coordinating, communicating and delivering successful new fireplace products. This position supports our strategic goals by delivering new products on time and to scope, whilst creating opportunities to increase our capacity for new product development and innovative R&D projects. Reporting to the Director, Product Design, this role supports the product development team and works cross functionally to manage multiple projects across our different product lines and markets.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster a project management process that enables the product development team to consistently deliver projects on time, in scope and to cost targets
  • Plan, manage and execute the product development process across the organization creating a consistent, defined handover from product development to manufacturing, product management and marketing
  • Manage multiple projects across our different product lines and markets within the product development process to meet project targets
  • Facilitate project meetings, reviews and product development status updates with all levels of the business, maintaining project minutes and action items and encouraging accountability, act as a primary contact for project scheduling, updates and prioritization from brief to production implementation
  • Translate and incorporate customer driven product requirements into detailed work action plans, while navigating and communicating adjustments needed to successfully meet project goals  factoring in risks, mitigating options and contingencies for resolution
  • Present and report the project progress, risks, expectations, timelines, milestones and key project metrics to senior leadership team. Provides suggestions and recommendations to the senior leadership team on risk management and project delivery, including resource capacity constraints, to inform project prioritization, resource allocation and capacity increases
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of FPI’s products in their competitive landscape, our customers and end user’s needs, opportunities and trends
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of our in-house manufacturing and external supplier capabilities, limitations and opportunities
  • Participate in product development sessions and strategic planning
  • Participate in department budget planning and tracking
  • Participating in ISO process to ensure compliance and to assist with improving quality, sustainability, safety and the IMS
  • Evaluating the outcomes of projects as established during the planning phase and for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Provide leadership and develop FPI employees in a manner consistent with FPI mission and guiding principles; ensuring employees have the tools and environment to meet their objectives, remain effective and feel appreciated
  • Maintain professional business relationships across all departments to create an efficient information channel; share information and keep other informed of important developments
  • Implementation and training of Health & Safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations; set a positive example by following regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining hazard awareness
  • Lead and maintain a positive environment focusing on Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with and support team projects and duties as required

Education/Training

  • University degree in Engineering, business or related discipline
  • PMP certification is an asset
  • 5+ years of Engineering Project Management experience
  • Experience leading product development projects and design of project management systems
  • A post-secondary degree in a related field and demonstrate a high level of business acumen

Experience

  • Knowledge of the full product development cycle from brief to production implementation
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and practices of project management
  • Document control and management experience; solid technical ability in project management computer applications and data bases
  • Agile project management experience an asset
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment an asset
