Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

Location: Delta, BC

In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading, scheduling, planning and overseeing the preventative maintenance program. Reporting to the Director, Manufacturing this position is also responsible supporting the plant’s highest productivity and overseeing maintenance personnel to ensure maximum uptime of all equipment and machinery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Provide leadership and develop FPI employees in a manner consistent with FPI mission and guiding principles; ensuring employees have the tools and environment to meet their objectives, remain effective and feel appreciated
  • Maintain professional business relationships across all departments to create an efficient information channel; share information and keep other informed of important developments
  • Implementation and training of Health & Safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations; set a positive example by following regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining hazard awareness
  • Lead and maintain a positive environment focusing on Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supervise employees in a manufacturing/production union environment
  • Develop a solid understanding of the company’s products
  • Deal with union related issues when required
  • Assist with and support team projects and duties as required 
Equipment Maintenance
  • Develop, plan and maintain scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance programs, including relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for measuring system/equipment reliability and long-range performance
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedule on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis working in conjunction with Production Control and Purchasing to minimize disruptions to production
  • Supervise the execution of daily/weekly maintenance repairs; recommend technical improvements for cost reductions
  • Open up daily communication with mechanics and operators regarding issues, corrective actions and continuous improvement (TPM) initiatives
  • Provide input to process improvements in sub-assembly, assembly and material handling as requested
  • Plans, organizes, co-ordinates and schedules test equipment calibration
  • Schedule, assist and supervise contracted workers for machinery modification & repair, and moving/installing machinery
  • Supervise the execution of daily/weekly/preventative equipment maintenance repairs of:
    • Trumpf CO2 and Fiber Lasers
    • Trumpf Brake Presses
    • Mazak Fiber Laser
    • PrimaPower Turrets
    • Hand rollers
    • All gas delivery systems for cutting
    • Welding Machines
    • Robotic Welders
  • Coordinate workflow with other departments and shifts
  • Other duties as assigned

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge

  • Effective organizational, prioritization and time management skill
  • Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through until completion
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationship with management and employees
  • Available to be on call for dealing with any maintenance issues on every shift

Education/Training

  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Millwright would be an asset
  • Certified General Machinist would be an asset

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Maintenance Supervision, preferably in a Manufacturing/Production environment
  • Previous experience working in a union environment would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience reading technical drawings & electrical schematics
  • Demonstrated experience developing effective teams
  • Previous experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems would be an asset
