Assistant Production Planner

Location: Delta, BC

In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, as a member of the Production Control team, the Assistant Planner is responsible for preparing and executing the necessary tasks to meet Master Production Schedule requirements on a timely basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain professionalism and act in a manner consistent with FPI mission and guiding principles
  • Follow all Health & Safety programs; actively participate in Health & Safety training with the purpose of gaining knowledge and understanding
  • Contribute to a positive work environment focusing on Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Initiate the release of work orders to the shop floor based on Master Production Schedule (MPS) requirements
  • Conduct daily audit/review of reports, work orders within ERP system (Epicor)
  • Perform routine daily and monthly MRP uploads
  • Release custom work orders to the shop floor
  • Process & coordinate engineering change notices (ECN)
  • Investigate and remedy parts shortages
  • Review and maintain safety stock levels and back order scheduling
  • Conduct daily sales review of units and accessories, with an emphasis on sequencing & mixes
  • Release, track, and dispatch outside processes in a timely manner
  • Recognize problems / discrepancies and proactively initiate corrective actions
  • Work within and maintain Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) spreadsheets and Access database
  • Assist in the coordination of daily priorities with Production Planners
  • Assist in the coordination and problem solving of inventory issues, including negative inventory correction
  • Develop an understanding of FPI’s Planning function to become an effective backup for the Production Planners
  • Other related duties as required


  • Knowledge of MRP, Bill of Materials and Inventory processes/concepts
  • Strong working knowledge of a variety of programs, including Excel, Access, Outlook, and ERP software
  • Able to maintain adaptability, while working with structured business processes
  • Excellent decision making skills
  • Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communications skills (written/verbal) in English
  • Proactive individual with a focus on preventive measures
  • Strong ability to build relationships (team player)


  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
  • Operations management / APICS programs an asset


  • 1-2 years’ experience in a Production Control environment preferred
  • Previous manufacturing experience an asset
